What you like most about working here?
There’s a real acceptance that while we collectively do some great work together, that everyone is still desperate to constantly improve and evolve our approach. Nobody is looking to stand still, we’re all striving to better ourselves, our ways of working and our customer experience.
I also love the fact that there’s plenty of autonomy given to me and my team to define solutions through real user research and understanding. With that autonomy also comes a weight of responsibility too but being in control of what options we explore is hugely rewarding, especially when we get it right!
That, plus there’s always cake.
What's the most challenging thing about working here?
The pace is relentless! We have lofty goals that we’re trying to achieve and we work in an ever-changing market that requires our teams to deliver change and value at a rapid rate. We’re constantly looking to solve real user problems but with the need to balance that against driving commercial value, managing an evolving regulatory landscape and all the typical challenges of keeping pace with new technologies. There’s nowhere to hide in all of that, but it’s all hugely rewarding in every sense when we get it right together.
What makes Moneysupermarket Group unique?
Ask most people at every level in the business, what attracted them or has kept them around at Moneysupermarket Group and more often than not people will mention the company purpose as the key driver. We exist to help households save money, feel calmer and more informed about their finances and this sits at the forefront of our thinking every day and in every decision we make. Coming to work with that purpose and seeing everyone live those values is truly inspiring and rewarding in equal measure.
Additionally, despite us being a fairly large organisation, it doesn’t feel corporate at all. Everyone is actively encouraged to bring their whole selves to work, we embrace people from every background, and it’s great to see the melting pot of personalities, styles and quirks mashing together but with that common altruistic purpose at the heart of it all.
How has your career developed during your time at Moneysupermarket Group?
When I started at Moneysupermarket Group I had no previous direct product management experience, hadn’t worked in an Agile development environment, and hadn’t worked in a regulated financial services business either. It’s fair to say that I felt like I was winging it for fair while! Fast forward a few years and I’ve had so many opportunities to work with some truly talented people and on some amazing products. I’ve learnt so much along the way and have been given a wealth of support from colleagues, managers and the business as a whole. My belief is that you are personally responsible for driving your own career development but Moneysupermarket Group is set up to offer the right support, guidance and opportunities to explore the things that drive you both personally and professionally. Ultimately, joining Moneysupermarket Group was the best career decision I’ve made to date and may well be hard to top.
What advice do you have for someone looking to join?
First up, if you’ve managed to read this far then you must be at least bit interested so let me tip you over the edge, do it! How many other roles are there out there where you get to come to work to help people feel calmer and more secure about their finances so they can spend their time, energy and money on the things that really matter? But then at the same time, also get the opportunity to work in a product focussed, forward thinking company with talented and entertaining colleagues at every level and in an organisation that’s supportive, caring and ambitious. It will be challenging, hard work and you’ll carry plenty of responsibility, but it will also be hugely rewarding and there will be opportunities to generate genuinely career defining success.
